Village Harvest Festival & Trunk or Treat

This Saturday, October 14, from 5-7:30 p.m., the Village Harvest Festival & Trunk or Treat event takes place at Sunbury United Methodist Church.

Come and enjoy this FREE community event filled with games, prizes, hay ride, bonfire, food, pumpkin patch, music and more. Activities begin at 5 p.m., with Trunk or Treat in our lower level parking lot beginning at 7 p.m. Goody bags will be provided inside while supplies last.

If the weather is bad, some outdoor events will be moved inside but the bonfire and hayride will be cancelled. Trunk or treat will be moved to our indoor classrooms.

Everyone is Welcome!

Sunbury Fall Heritage Festival

The Myers Inn Museum and grounds will join with the Village of Sunbury to remember our history and enjoy fall activities from 3-7 p.m. on Sunday, October 15.

Activities include Community Library’s Haunted House in the Town Hall, Condit Presbyterian Church’s Carnival Games, Sunbury Christian Church’s Food Court, First Impressions Straw Maze, bounce house and slide plus much more on Sunbury Square.

On the west side of Columbus Street, one may visit Blacksmith Rick Helwig operating the forge in the Myers Inn Barn. Plan to see a Civil War Camp site in the yard and visit with Abraham Lincoln. There will be make-it and take-it crafts for children and a chance to dip a candle at the Myers Inn. Crafters will set up demonstrations in and around the Myers Inn. Karen Meyer will be selling her historical Christian Fiction books for children.

Myers Inn Museum and Gift Shop will be open if you wish to look at the artifacts or make a purchase. At 4 p.m. on the Myers Inn porch, the historical Society will continue the tradition of honoring a volunteer who has helped BWAHS.

BWAHS has celebrated our roots with a Heritage Day in October since the beginning of the Historical Society. Sunbury Fall Festival was held in Freedom Park the previous three years moved to Sunbury Village Square or the Bicentennial. The two celebrations merged last year to become Sunbury Fall Heritage Festival with an estimated 1,000 attendees.

Rolled Ice Cream

We were coming home Friday night following BW’s football win and noticed Rollie’s Ice Cream was now open at Park and State in Westerville at the old Chocolaterie Stam shop. They serve a new confection called rolled ice cream, which is said to be a different sensation than regular ice cream. The owners also have a store in Marysville. Uptown Westerville also has a DQ, Graeter’s and Whits Frozen Custard.

Other places we’d like to try: Delaney’s Diner at 5916 Westerville Road in Glengary Plaza, which has resurrected the Pasta Salvi; Juniper, a new Caribbean restaurant on top of the Smith Brothers Hardware building in Columbus; and Annie’s Wine Cottage at 30 W. Olentangy St. in Powell, featuring 700 labels.
