Sunbury Mayor Tommy Hatfield gets a pie in the face during Sunday’s Sydney’s Soldiers fundraiser at Autumn Lakes Campground. Each pie cost $20 that went towards the day’s total.

Sydney’s Soldiers Fundraiser held at Autumn Lakes Campground last Sunday had plenty of acreage to handle the crowd, but it was so well attended that parking was at a premium. Some events are standing room only.

Sydney Hatfield, daughter of Sunbury Mayor Tommy Hatfield, was recently diagnosed with Glioblastoma, a rare, inoperable brain cancer. Prayer chains have been formed, and fundraising has been underway to help the family with the expenses that accrue as she battles facing this disease.

Sunday’s event organizer Lesli Kintner said the turnout was great.

“The Big Walnut Community’s support has been outstanding,” Kintner said. “I couldn’t begin to estimate how many folks showed up, at least 500. We had over 250 people register for the auction.”

Couldn’t make it Sunday but still want to contribute? No problemo, as Arnie would say. Just call Kintner at 614-206-5020, or email < >.
