During their Monday, March 23 meeting, members of the Sunbury Lions Club presented a $3,500 check to Big Walnut Friends Who Share. The money was raised during this past year’s Lions Club Christmas Tree Sale on Sunbury Village Square.
Big Walnut Friends Who Share Store Manager Gene Wampler attended the dinner meeting to accept the donation.
“This money will mostly be used for food,” Wampler said. “Donations to the Friends Who Share Food Bank are always slow this time of year. We really appreciate the Sunbury Lions Club for all the help they give us throughout the year.”
Sunbury Lion Rick Eyman presented the check to Wampler.
“We’ve been raising money for the needy during the holidays as long as I’ve been here,” Eyman said after presenting the check. “We started giving the money to Big Walnut Friends Who Share because a lot of people get food around the holidays and nothing the rest of the year. Friends Who Share has a network to distribute this money as food where and when it’s most needed.”
Eyman added that members of the Sunbury Lions Club consider it a real privilege to help people in need and the Big Walnut community.
