The Big Walnut Education Foundation Inc. estimates that it will award about $85,000 in scholarships to Big Walnut students this year.
The foundation is a non-profit 501(c) 3 organization begun in 1994 and controlled by a board of trustees from the Big Walnut community.
Through donations and fundraising events, such as an annual golf outing, the foundation continues to grow and increase the amount of scholarship awards each year.
In 1995, $6,000 was awarded in scholarships; in 2015, $84,500 was awarded to 53 students. Since 1995, the foundation has awarded scholarships totaling more than $1,417,500.
Applications are available on Naviance or in the Big Walnut High School counseling office for all of the foundation college scholarships.
Members of the Class of 2016 may apply for scholarships for college and other accredited post-secondary programs; and continuing college scholarships are open to graduates of Big Walnut who are currently enrolled full time at an accredited college or university and carry a 2.5 grade-point average or better.
Continuing college applications are available online at bigwalnuteducationfoundation.org.
Students applying for the scholarships must complete applications, include official transcripts, provide complete copies of their FAFSA, and submit enrollment verification for the fall of 2016.
