School is out, summer is here, it’s time for no more pencils, no more books; but statistics prove that children’s reading skills erode during summer months when they are away from the classroom.

Community Library in Sunbury has the perfect antidote for reading backsliding – the Summer Reading Club, a fun way to continue reading through summer months, and also a way to earn prizes.

Community Library’s Summer Reading Club kicks off with a party from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. this Saturday, June 4, at Community Library; and best of all, all ages are welcome, no registration is required, and the event is free.

The Summer Reading Club Party will include large bouncy inflatable’s, games, and other entertainments; and children of all ages may pick up their Summer Reading Club materials, and sign up for Preservation Parks Summer Letterbox Adventure.

There will also be a door prize drawing for four tickets to King’s Island, but you must be present to win.

In the event of rain, the Summer Reading Club Party will be held at Sunbury Christian Church, 250 Rainbow Avenue in Sunbury.

If you’re too old to participate in Community Library’s Summer Reading Club but you love to read, you can participate in the library’s Adult Summer Reading Program from June 6 through July 30 – and earn prizes for reading.

For every completed bookmark entry form Adult Summer Reading Program participants turn in, Community Library Friends will donate money to Community Library to purchase materials, such as books for the library; and just read the required amount and you will receive, courtesy of Community Library Friends, a T-shirt.

But that’s not all. Turn in your first entry and get a coupon from the Big Walnut Grill; and for every completed bookmark entry form you turn in, you will also be entered in a weekly drawing for a Subway Sub, a $5 gift card from Ace Hardware, Community Library Friends $10 Gas Gift Card, or a pick from a treasure box.

Continue to read through the summer and be entered in a Grand Prize Drawing at the end of the program, August 1, for a Kindle Fire, or a Kindle Reader, a Prize from Friends of one of two $50 Amazon Gift Certificates, a $25 Gift Certificate from Groovy Plants, a $50 Gift Certificate toward classes from Sunbear Studio, a $25 Gift Certificate from Oakland Nursery, or a $25 Gift Card from Barley Hopster.

If you enjoy camping at Ohio State Parks, be sure and pick up a certificate for 50 percent off camping; and in honor of your dedication to reading, the Ohio Renaissance Festival grants 50 percent off admission to readers who bring their special coupon to the gate. Both coupons are available to anyone who participates in the Adult Summer Reading Program.

Community Library is located at 44 Burrer Drive in Sunbury, and on the World Wide Web at < >.
