The citizens of Delaware County are advised of a jury scam operating in Delaware County and other Ohio counties. The Jury Commission Office has been receiving telephone calls from residents who are being contacted by persons impersonating law enforcement officers accusing them of missing jury service. The caller tells the victim that they failed to appear for jury service and that a bench warrant was issued for their arrest and that the person should pay money to avoid arrest.
The Jury Commission office and the courts do not call and do not ask for money. Further, the jury office does not email seeking personal information such as account, credit card or social security numbers. Do not give out any information unless you initiate the contact.
Delaware County residents who are summoned for jury service will receive a packet of information in the mail in advance of their report dates.
Anyone who receives a call such as this should contact the Jury Commission office at 740-833-2558.
Information for this story was supplied by Joseph J. Digenova, Jury Commissioner.
