Students compete in FFA test

On Wednesday, November 2, seven Big Walnut/DACC FFA students took the state Food Science & Technology test online after school. Big Walnut/DACC Satellite Ag Science Instructor and FFA Advisor Jeff Stimmell said results are in and the team placed 11th out of 105 teams.

“The contest is not done, however,” Stimmell said. “The scores from that test will follow the students through the various levels of competition. There were almost 1,200 students who took the test and three of our students placed in the top 50. Lex Marvin placed 21st, Alex Parsio was 35th, and Troy Herrel was 50th, all in the top five percent.”

Stimmell also noted that Faye Dean, Ali Carter, and Ben Kessler participated and placed in the top 25 percent of the state. Freshman Jayden Thomas took the test and made a strong showing.

“The students will compete again next Wednesday (Nov. 9) at the Sub-District contest to determine if they will move on to the district level,” Stimmell said.

The first round of Job Interview contests were also on November 2. Stimmell said Madi Withrow and Faye Dean both placed second in their respective divisions, and Julie Forman placed first in her division.

“All three of these ladies earned the privilege of competing at the district level,” Stimmell said. “Gabby Adair and Kyle Kintz also participated, but unfortunately will not be moving on.”
