With the New Year upon us, political subdivisions statewide must hold a reorganization meeting before doing business in 2017.
Some political subdivisions hold a separate meeting for reorganization purposes; others meet at their standard day and time and hold a reorganization session prior to entering a regular meeting and doing business.
The Village of Sunbury will hold its reorganization meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 4, in third floor council chambers, Sunbury Town Hall, followed by council’s regular business meeting. During that meeting, 2017 committee responsibilities will either be reassigned or remain unchanged, and standing meeting dates and times announced.
The Village of Galena will hold its annual reorganization session at 7 p.m. on Monday, January 9, at the Galena Administration Building. Galena’s regularly scheduled council meetings are held at 7 p.m. on the fourth Monday of every month.
Genoa Township’s reorganization meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 5, at Genoa Township Hall. Seated at the dais will be trustees Karl Gephardt and Frank Dantonio. Former trustee Rick Carfagna resigned at the end of 2016 to assume his responsibilities as Ohio’s 68th House District Representative.
One of the primary challenges on the agenda that Gebhardt and Dantonio face is selecting Carfagna’a replacement. In the event Gebhardt and Dantonio fail to decide on a candidate within 30 days following a vacant seat at the trustee dais, Ohio Revised Code stipulates that Delaware County Court of Common Pleas Judge David Hejmanowski would select a candidate to fill the seat.
The Big Walnut Local School District Board of Education recently announced a venue change for all future board meetings. Beginning this month the board of education will meet at the school district’s new administration building at 110 Tippitt Court.
The board of education will hold its reorganization meeting at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 12; and hold its regular monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 19.
