Big Walnut High School student Zach MacDonald was recognized during the Thursday, March 16, Big Walnut Local School District Board of Education meeting as a Student of the Month.
Zach, a senior, has been accepted at The Ohio State University where he plans to major in business, but he said his career options and field of study are still open.
Big Walnut High School Principal Andy Jados said Zach juggles a full high school schedule while maintaining excellent grades.
“His AP, Honors, and college courses are keeping him busy, but he still enjoys being involved in things like the Drama Program,” Jados said. “Zach is also a member of the Math and German honor societies and the Big Walnut High School Chapter of the National Honor Society.”
In addition to participating in the high school’s Drama Club, Jados said Zach plays the saxophone in the band, and has been on the Cross-Country, Swim & Dive, and Track & Field teams during all four years of his high school career.
The high school’s German language teacher Frau Georgia Craig said Zach is a natural role model in the classroom.
“His kindness, willingness to help others, and maturity are remarkable for one so young,” Craig said. “Despite his busy schedule, he still takes time to cultivate and maintain friendships. He is an inspiring individual and has accomplished so much as a young man.”
High school guidance counselor Jeanne Collett said Zach is one of the friendliest students she has ever worked with.
“Zach is outgoing, inviting, charismatic,” Collett said. “He is a confident and well-rounded young man. He is academically strong and involved in various clubs and organizations, and is also a successful student-athlete. Zach is a wonderful representative of the quality of students here at Big Walnut.”
Zach, who transferred to the Big Walnut area from California while he was in the fourth grade, said in his free time he likes to jump on a trampoline, lay in hammocks, and spend time with his friends.
Zach is the son of Rory and Merri MacDonald.
