Sunbury United Methodist Church (SUMC) will host its 12th annual Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, December 5 from 9-11 a.m. This free event is open to all and is a gift of love from SUMC to the Big Walnut community. The goal of Breakfast with Santa is to touch hearts with a generous, abundant message of God’s hope and love. The morning includes the secular Christmas of Santa with the real reason for the season — the story of Christ’s birth.
Breakfast with Santa gives families a place to affirm their Christian teachings while celebrating Christmas in a fun, festive atmosphere. For those families who have never heard the true Christmas story, it offers a wonderful beginning. Last year approximately 750 people attended during the course of the two-hour event.
Each family receives a visit and professional photograph with Santa taken by Todd Yarrington Photography on the North Pole stage in the church’s multi-purpose room. Children sit next to Santa in his cozy living room set complete with a roaring fireplace and a Christmas tree. Santa gives each child a gift — a book about the first Christmas — and his elves roam the building handing out treats and candy. Children receive empty treat bags that are quickly filled with toys and goodies as they visit stations and play Reindeer Games throughout the church.
The SUMC sanctuary is filled with Christmas carol singing and a Christmas show by the SUMC Youth Puppet ministry. Kids of all ages will enjoy the impressive model train display, right outside the sanctuary in the parlor.
Added to all the fun and excitement, guests are treated to a delicious continental breakfast and Christmas goodies all washed down with milk, juice and hot Tim Hortons coffee. The smell of cinnamon biscuits coming out of the oven lets you know Mrs. Claus is in the kitchen making sure no one leaves hungry!
The decorations are designed to delight the little ones, and the church is full of merry surprises. Registration or church membership is not required and the doors open at 9 a.m. Don’t forget your cameras to capture those cute candid shots!
