Big Walnut Intermediate School sixth-grader Isaiah Wince was recognized as a December Student of the Month during last Thursday’s Big Walnut school board meeting.
During the 2015 State Science Day at The Ohio State University, Isaiah won second place in the future dentist/scientist category, sponsored by the Ohio State college of dentistry. Isaiah also received honorable mention for the Human Nutrition Award sponsored by the Ohio Nutrition Council and Ohio Dietetic Association.
“Isaiah is a critical thinker in every sense,” said social studies teacher Rachel Middleman. “He is constantly making connections to the outside world and to his very deep knowledge of history. He constantly goes above and beyond the task at hand, and is eager to help his classmates.”
Middleman said Isaiah frequently challenges his peers to think at higher levels, and thrives when his peers challenge him as well; that he’s a conscientious boy who cares for everyone.
Sixth-grade math and science teacher Wendy Austin said Isaiah is a unique individual with many talents.
“Isaiah is a student who dives deep into the curriculum and helps to expand his classmates’ view of the world,” Austin said. “He is always willing to help a fellow peer and knows how to challenge his teachers to better help himself and the classmates. Isaiah is very science-minded and very diligent about exploring the world.”
Austin said Isaiah inspires and guides his peers, teachers and himself every day to soar to new heights.
