What Will the Future Hold?

By Pastor Stephen Howard - Morrow Bible Church

A quick Google search of “predictions for 2018” reveals all types of speculation about politics, technology, and finance.

I even found several articles about Baba Vanga, a blind Bulgarian woman who died in 1996, that made some predictions about events in 2018.

But did you know the Bible reveals the future? Dreams, astrology, and animal entrails are vague and inaccurate sources of the future. The Bible alone is completely reliable.

Here is a summary of the future according to the Bible:

  • Upon death everyone will continue conscious existence in either Heaven or Hell.
  • The dead await physical resurrection of the body to eternal life or eternal punishment.
  • Jesus Christ will descend from heaven to catch up the Church to be with Him.
  • Then the world will enter a seven-year period of Tribulation in which the Antichrist will attempt to rule the world.
  • Unprecedented catastrophes will devastate the earth.
  • After this Jesus Christ will return to the earth to destroy His enemies and set up a kingdom of peace on the earth.

How can we be sure this is true?

God’s predictions in the Bible have proven true in the past. We can expect the future prophecies to be true as well. There were many prophecies that came true about the birth of Jesus Christ. Take for example, the prediction about Bethlehem.

“But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting” (Micah 5:2).

That happened when Jesus Christ was born in a lowly stable in Bethlehem. Although it was unexpected — “though thou be little among the thousands of Judah” — it happened just as God predicted.

It has been 76 years since December 7, 1941, the tragic attack on Pearl Harbor. There are a few people still alive that can remember that long ago. But there is no one except God that can remember eternity past. He was born in Bethlehem, but Jesus Christ is also the ruler “from everlasting.” He alone knows our future because He is outside of time itself.

Instead of wondering about predictions for 2018, take time this year to read what God has already revealed in the Bible about the future.
