A dozen locals playing AU sports

The following students are members of the Baseball team at Ashland University in Ashland, Ohio, it was announced on March 21:

  • Zachary Franz of Sunbury is majoring in sport management. Franz is a 2017 graduate of Saint Charles Preparatory School. Franz, a freshman, is an outfielder for the Eagles.
  • Joshua Stover of Westerville is a 2017 graduate of Westerville North High School. Stover, a freshman, is a right-handed pitcher for the Eagles.
  • Logan Moss of Galena is majoring in business management. Moss is a 2017 graduate of Olentangy Orange High School. Moss, a freshman, is a third and second baseman for the Eagles.
  • Ryan Curtis of Westerville is majoring in forensic chemistry. Curtis is a 2014 graduate of Westerville North High School. Curtis, a junior, is a right-handed pitcher for the Eagles.

The Ashland University baseball team competes in NCAA Division II in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). The Eagles are led by head coach John Schaly, now entering his 21st season. The Eagles play their home games at Sarver Athletic Complex. The Eagles baseball team, which finished last season 33-22, made an appearance in the 2016 GLIAC tournament with a record of 0-2. The Eagles season began on Saturday, February 25, at Trevecca Nazarene and they currently hold a record of 5-6. Paige McMenemy Member of the Softball Team at Ashland University

Paige McMenemy of Westerville is a member of Ashland University’s Softball team.

McMenemy is majoring in middle grades education. McMenemy is a 2014 graduate of Westerville Central High School. McMenemy, a senior, is a pitcher for the Eagles.

The Ashland University softball team competes in NCAA Division II in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). The Eagles are led by head coach Emlyn Knerem, a 2012 graduate of Ashland University. The Eagles play their home games at Sarver Athletic Complex. The Eagles softball team finished the 2017 campaign as tied for fifth in the GLIAC conference. They finished 30-23 overall and 13-9 in the GLIAC. Cronin on Ashland Women’s Swimming and Diving Team

Madeline Cronin of Westerville is a member of Ashland University’s Swimming and Diving team.

Cronin is majoring in nursing. Cronin is a 2016 graduate of Westerville Central High School. Cronin, a sophomore, dives for the Eagles.

The Ashland University women’s swim team is an NCAA Division II team and a part of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). Two on Men’s Swimming and Diving Team

The following students are members of the Men’s Swimming and Diving team at Ashland University:

  • Matthew Bernsdorf of Westerville is a member of Ashland University’s Men’s Swimming and Diving team. Bernsdorf is majoring in intervention specialist education. He is the son of Chad and Jen Bernsdorf of Westerville. Bernsdorf is a 2015 graduate of Westerville North High School. Bernsdorf, a junior, swims breaststroke and the individual medley for the Eagles.
  • Joshua Nixon of Westerville is a member of Ashland University’s Men’s Swimming and Diving team. Nixon is majoring in exercise science. He is the son of James and Sandra Nixon of Westerville. Nixon is a 2014 graduate of Westerville Central High School. Nixon, a senior, swims sprint freestyle and butterfly for the Eagles.

The Ashland University men’s swim team is an NCAA Division II team and a part of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). Ashland Track and Field Team Members

The following students are members of the Track and Field Team at Ashland University:

  • Angelica Frye of Galena is a member of Ashland University’s Track and Field team. Frye is majoring in history. Frye is a 2017 graduate of Olentangy Orange High School. Frye, a freshman, competes in sprints and jumps for the Eagles.
  • Ellie Jindra of Sunbury is a member of Ashland University’s Track and Field team. Jindra is majoring in sport management. Jindra is a 2016 graduate of Big Walnut High School. Jindra, a sophomore, competes in jumps for the Eagles.
  • Kainnan Ramsey of Westerville is a member of Ashland University’s Track and Field team. Ramsey is a 2017 graduate of Thomas Worthington High School. Ramsey, a freshman, competes in sprints for the Eagles.

The Ashland University men’s and women’s track and field team competes in NCAA Division II in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). The Eagles are led by head coach Jud Logan, now entering his 23rd season as a coach and his 12th season as head coach. The Eagles play their home games at Ferguson Field located next to the football stadium. The Eagles hope to return to the top of the GLIAC with a mixture of veterans and new faces in key positions. Cameron Jenkins Member of the Wrestling Team

Cameron Jenkins of Westerville is a member of Ashland University’s Wrestling team.

Jenkins is majoring in psychology. Jenkins is a 2017 graduate of Westerville North High School.

The Ashland University Wrestling Team entered the Division II National Championships ranked 7th in the nation, but left with a sixth-place finish. The AU wrestling team saw its first national title since 1996 this year with a 1st place finish by senior Michael Labry in the Division II National Championships. Labry competed in the 133 pound weight class. Head coach Josh Hutchens is entering his fifth season as AU’s head coach. Hutchens is assisted by Tony Guerra and Ryan Kirst.
