This was a fantastic meet to start the season. 2nd place is the highest finish we have had here since we started coming to Newark in 2010. This gives us a big confidence boost as we begin the year. I’m equally happy about the fact we were able to use 23 girls, nine of who had never competed in a high school meet (seven freshmen). That experience will be valuable as we move forward in the season.
We scored in fourteen events, which shows our balance. We had five first places, two school records, and a meet record.
Congratulations to Colbi Borland. She broke her own school record in the 3200 run, and smashed the school record in the 1600 run. The previous record was held by Dorrie Meeker in 1979. It was the oldest record in the books.
We can definitely use this performance to help us as we prepare for the Golden Eagle Relays next weekend.
