Lots of fun memories were made in the mud Saturday. Just as in the girls’ race, this was by far our toughest competition of the year. It gave us a really good look at the OCC with just five weeks left. All the teams in our conference with the exception of Canal Winchester were there. We have a good idea of where we are sitting, now we have to improve on that position. Time-wise, the times were well below their norm with 2-4 inches of mud throughout the course and a large water obstacle to keep times slow. But competition is what those days are about.

Christopher Lee was our top runner at 20:24. Jacob Krous was our second runner (20:44), Drew Armstrong (21:30), Grady Hemingway (21:32), and Cole Matos (21:50) round out our top five for the weekend.

The rest of the runners are as follows: Austin Stewart 22:04; Jatan Pokar 22:06; Austin McGrath 22:58; Alex Parsio 23:00; Caelan Omohundro 23:16; Ryan Cummins 23:47; Owen List 24:26; Tim Lott 24:35; Leif Anderson 25:02; ackson Podraza 25:02; Jonny Gartner 26:25; Jaden Partlow 26:37; Connor Staschiak 27:25; Matt Lanning 27:44; Zach Grieser 29:32; Brian Irvine 30:23; Josh Johnson 30:57; Jackson Diol 31:10; Derek Stacy 31:18; Mitchell Bauman 32:16; Adam Hoover 32:57; Milby Miller 35:27; Justin Petree 50:01

Girls Varsity Cross Country

Big Walnut finishes 3rd place at Granville HS

Saturday, September 1, 2018 8:30 AM Place 3; Points 100

Meet Recap: Cross Country Granville Invitational 9/1/18

Girls start the year with a strong 24-12 record after three meets!

1) Lexington 31; 2) Granville 80; 3) Big Walnut 100; 4) New Albany 105; 5) Tri-Valley 131; 6) Watkins Memorial 144; 7) Westerville Central 144; 8) Reynoldsburg 231; 9) Delaware Hayes 246; 10) Licking Hts 248; 11) Logan 273; 12) London No Score; 13) Whitehall No Score

It was a great day for the girls! The only two teams to beat us are state recognized programs. Lexington is ranked #1 in the state in Division II, and Granville is ranked in the top 15 in Division I after finishing 8th in the state last year. Even more importantly, we beat last year’s OCC-Capital champions, New Albany. This should set us up for a fabulous showdown on October 13th for the OCC-Capital title!

Our top five runners all medaled (top 30 overall out of 199 runners). That was huge for us. Colbi Borland continues to race well, placing 3rd with a time of 19:26. Sierra Sanders had a big race, placing 2nd for the team and 19th overall with a time of 22:03; Grace Unger 23rd 22:15; Hannah Unger 25th 22:20; Chloe McKenzie 30th 22:37

The remaining times are as follows: Alina Pecci 23:40; Annika Anderson 24:53; MacKenna Ames 25:06; Jaiden Hilton 25:24; Sydney Foxworthy 26:11; Jojo Lucas 26:55; Amber Hall 27:05; Abbey Danne 27:01; Celia Sutton 27:14; Mia Smith 27:17; Jordan May 27:31; Trinity Glenn 27:54; Siena Coomes 27:57; Abbey Danne 28:20; Riley Anderson 30:05; Ava Walker 31:23; Lindsey Thompson 31:24; Emily Thompson 31:49; Fiona Lariviere 33:27

Big Walnut fell to 1-2 on the season after a tough 28-26 loss to Dublin Scioto at home Friday, Sept. 7. The Eagles got off to a fast start, scoring the first 13 points of the game with a 19-yard run by quarterback Jagger Barnett (point after by Caleb Meade) and a 22-yard reception from Barnett to Jakob Daniels, all in the first quarter. However, Scioto roared back with three touchdowns in the second quarter: A 7-yard run by Pete Hrelec; a 40-yard reception by Tobias Thomas; and Gage Hannan returned a blocked punt 10 yards for 6 points with less than a minute to go in the half (Griffin Crosa with the points after).

In the third quarter, BW’s Andy Van Houten scored a touchdown on a 37-yard run. Scioto got the decisive touchdown early in the fourth, a 3-yard run by Kryon Rodgers. Big Walnut got the last points, a 2-yard run by Tyler Crotinger with 7 minutes to go and the PAT.

BW had fewer penalties and more rushing and total yards; but Scioto had more first downs, had more time of possession, passed for more yardage and forced three turnovers.

Big Walnut ties Olentangy High School 0-0

Tuesday, August 28, 2018 7:30 PM Big Walnut High School @ Olentangy High School

Game Recap: A very tough battle for both teams. Olentangy came attacking right out of the gate forcing alot of defensive work from the Eagles to start. Once Big Walnut settled in, the game went into back and forth exchange of possession. The Eagles thought they had a goal off an Avery Schone cross that almost went but hit the post and came back out. Overall it was a good battle with the Eagles showing alot of drive and fight in the last ten minutes as they pushed to try and get that decisive goal, which didn’t transpire for either teams. A good result tonight against respectable opposition.

Stats showed: Score 0-0. Saves: Scott (OHS) – 5; Carter (BWHS) – 9
