The following athletes were recognized for their State accomplishments during halftime of the boy’s basketball game on Saturday, Dec. 22: Brandon Mosher — State Shot Put 3rd Place & Discus State Qualifier; Tim Rumas — State 3rd Place 100 Meters & 4th Place 200 Meters; Meredith Thomas — Softball All Ohio 2nd Team; Avery Schone — Soccer All Ohio 2nd Team; Mac Podraza — Volleyball All Ohio 2nd Team.

BOYS VARSITY BASKETBALL

Big Walnut beats Franklin Heights High School 57-44

Friday, January 4, 2019 7:30 PM HOME

Game Recap: The Big Walnut Boys Basketball Team defeated Franklin Heights last night by a score of 57-44. The boys were led in scoring by Carson Becker with 15 points and Kegan Hienton with 13 points. Brody Lawhun also chipped in 9 points and a team high 6 rebounds. The boys return to action at home against Mansfield Madison.

Big Walnut finishes 12th place at Buckeye High School Classic Tournament

Meet Recap: Bowling Congratulations to Johnny Lemaster who rolled a 621 series to take the 5th overall spot at the Buckeye High School Classic today. Johnny led the Big Walnut Boys with games of 233-195-193. Brandon Watkins from Kenton Ridge placed first with a 652 series.

GIRLS VARSITY BOWLING

Big Walnut finishes 14th place at Buckeye High School Classic Tournament

Meet Recap: Bowling Anna Tanner led the Big Walnut Girls with a 534 series to earn 2nd place on the all tournament team at the Buckeye High School Classic today. Anna missed placing 1st by only 2 pins by rollin games of 191-178-165. Brittany Salimbene from Lexington finished first by rolling a 536. This isthe first time that both the Big Walnut Boys and Girls had a bowler finish in the all tournament team at the same tournament.

Big Walnut falls to Westerville Central High School 108-78

Game Recap: The Big Walnut Swim and Dive Team competed against Westerville Central High School on December 28th. Even though Big Walnut lost the meet the team is showing much growth and continues to improve in each event with many personal records.

100 Free: Samantha Blackburn, Cole Wecker, Gabe Charles, Charlie Jaeger, Brayden Wagner, Roy Roberto, Angelo Cotugno, Grady Hemingway, Mark Ruffing

500 Free: Charlie Jaeger

100 Back: Christopher Lee

The Dive Team had a strong showing with Big Walnut Ladies and Boys taking most ot the top positions. For the girls Mackenna Ames took first place, Eva Lane earned second place and Macy Roberto finished in third place. For the boys Nate Dimitroff earned second place and Jameson Welker finished in third place.

The team is looking forward to its next meet.

GIRLS VARSITY SWIMMING

Big Walnut High School Girls Varsity Swimming beat Mount Vernon High School 1-0

Game Recap: Swimming The Big Walnut Swim Team competed on Saturday, January 5th against Mount Vernon, Westland, Central Crossing, Bloom-Carroll and Coshocton High Schools at the Kenyon College Recreation Center. Both the boys and girls team did an outstanding job with the boys swim team taking first overall and the girls team taking second place just behind Mount Vernon.

The team had many personal best times:

200 IM: Megan Baldy, Braden Buckler

50 Free: Mairin Ryan, Cole Wecker, Roy Roberto, Caleb Meade

100 Fly: Samantha Blackburn, Ryan Cummins, Tyler Paul

100 Free: Megan Baldy, Gabriel Young, Mark Ruffing

500 Free: Nathan Wion, Charlie Jaeger, Christopher Lee

100 Back: Elinor Russell, Jamie May, Charlie Jaeger, Gabriel Young, Christopher Lee, Jatan Pokar

100 Breast: Jordan May, Lucinda VandeKieft, Camden Andrian, Micah Tillar
