Newark 81, Big Walnut 39

The Wildcats outscored the Golden Eagles 21-7 in the first quarter and 27-13 in the third on the way to a lopsided league win Friday (Jan. 6) in Sunbury.

BJ Duling and JT Shumate led Newark with 18 points apiece while Henry von Hollen had a team-high 12 for Big Walnut.

Olentangy 78, Westerville Central 73

Jason Sieve was able to do just about whatever he wanted to Friday, hitting five three-pointers on the way to a game-high 35 points to lead the Olentangy boys basketball team to a 78-73 OCC win over visiting Westerville Central Friday in Lewis Center.

With the game tied at 54 after three, Sieve erupted for 17 points in the fourth quarter alone.

“I expect that every night from Sieve,” Braves coach John Feasel said. “There are times when we don’t do as good a job getting him shots or the other teams key on him, but when he works as hard as he did tonight, he’s pretty good.”

Olentangy trailed 41-35 at the break, but outscored Central 19-13 in the third quarter and 24-19 in the fourth to smooth out the scoring summary.

Sean Marks backed Sieve with 14 points while Nathan Riedel added nine.

The Braves made more free throws than the Warhawks shot, finishing 20-for-23 at the line.

Cam Schroeder led Central with 16.

Westerville North 59, Liberty 57

Liberty used a late 7-0 run to take a one-point lead with 30 seconds to go, but Jeremiah Keene sank a contested three-pointer at the buzzer to lift Westerville North to an OCC win Friday in Powell.

The Patriots, down six with three minutes to go, rallied to take the lead when Jack Barnett connected on a pair of free throws with less than a minute left.

Barnett scored 14 points to lead Liberty while Ben Roderick added 10 and Mitch Kershner chipped in nine.

Keene led all scorers with 20 points while North’s Connor Ledford added 16.
