Girls Volleyball sweeps last week

The Big Walnut Golden Eagles continue their OCC dominance on the volleyball court bringing two more Capital Division wins last week.

Tuesday they faced Canal Winchester at home and fought through 3 tough sets (25-22, 26-24, 26-24) for the win. Junior setter, Machaela Podraza, and junior outside hitter, Kelsie Imertreijs, lead the pack with 11 kills each. Senior outside hitter, Emma Urhammer, brought down 7 kills followed by junior middle hitter, Kaley Rammelsberg and senior opposite hitter, Haley Griffith, each with 6 kills. Senior middle, Emma Gebele, aced 3 of her 15 serves for the night.

Thursday night the Eagles visited New Albany for their second match-up of the season. New Albany started strong, winning set one of the night (25-22). Big Walnut rallied and took the next three sets (25-20, 25-22, 25-10). Outstanding performances were brought by much of the Eagles roster. Senior libero, Meredith Thomas had 21 digs and was 100% accurate from the serving line. Senior outside hitter, Emma Urhammer had 13 kills, and 6 blocks. Junior setter Machaela Podraza brought down 13 kills, 6 blocks, 12 digs, 19 assists and was 100% from the serving line. Junior outside hitter, Kelsie Imertreijs was one of the top hitters of the night as well, bringing 10 kills, 2 blocks and 10 digs. Kaley Rammelsberg put up a formidable wall with 7 blocks along with 6 kills. Junior setter Sammi Bickley went 19 for 20 from the service line and had 20 assists.

Big Walnut is 7-0 in the OCC with three more upcoming conference games. They faced Hilliard Davidson and Gahanna Lincoln in a non-conference tournament last weekend and won both games in two sets each.
