11th BW Eagle Football Camp set

Big Walnut High School has an exceptional football program, the middle school teams prepare students for high school play, and the Big Walnut community hosts an active youth football league that feeds the middle school. There’s no doubt that when fall rolls around, Big Walnut is football territory.

Also each fall, Big Walnut Football Coaching Staff hosts the annual Eagle Pride Football Camp, now in its 11th year, for boys in grades three through eight.

Big Walnut High School Head Varsity Football Coach Joe Weaver said the camp’s goal is to make participants not only better players, but also better persons.

“During the camp participants will learn the same techniques and fundamentals that are taught to Big Walnut High School football players,” Weaver said. “Pride, Discipline, Attitude and Team are the cornerstones of the Big Walnut Football Program. These are qualities that we emphasize every day.”

Weaver also said camp participants would acquire leadership skills, develop self-awareness and learn to set goals in order to promote individual success, both on the field and in their personal and academic lives.

Weaver said the camp’s daily schedule includes stretch and agility sessions, individual offense and defense fundamentals and techniques, and specialties like long-snapping, kicking and punting. There will also be form tackling sessions (straight on, angle, open field and strip the ball), 7 on 7, Eagle Ball and contests.

“The desire to compete, win and be a champion are the feelings that we want all of our campers to have,” Weaver said. “Most importantly, this camp will give you an opportunity to meet great people and have fun.”

The 11th Annual Eagle Pride Football Camp will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. July 19 through July 22 at the high school football practice field.

The cost is a modest $40. Registration forms are available on the Big Walnut Local School District Athletic website at < bigwalnutathletics.net >, click Camps & Summer Info, then click the Eagle Pride Football Camp link. Make checks payable to Big Walnut Touchdown Club.

Coach Weaver said walk-ons are welcome.

Camp participants need to wear a T-shirt, shorts and cleats, and bring a water jug.

An athletic trainer will be present throughout the camp.
