The Big Walnut track and field teams posted a pair of solid performances in their host event, with the boys taking top honors and the girls finishing second at last Thursday’s 39th annual Red Edwards Relays in Sunbury.
The boys were boosted by their field event performers. Sophomore Abe Myers and junior Cole Amato helped the Golden Eagles pick up first-place points in the discus relay with the top two throws of the day. Myers had the best, a toss of 153-11, while Amato finished with a throw of 130-02.
Sophomore Brandon Mosher and senior Ethan Hale, meanwhile, did the same in leading BW to a win in the shot put relay. Mosher had the best throw of the day (49-08) while Hale had the second-best heave (47-10.5).
Junior Noah McKinney was also solid, tying for first among individuals in the high jump (5-06).
The girls’ runner-up effort was highlighted by a win in the shuttle hurdle relay. Sarah Althauser, Tori Rammelsberg, Ashleigh Althauser and Kaley Rammelsberg teamed up to finish in 1:10.37.
The Golden Eagles also won both jumping relay. Kaley Rammelsberg cleared 5-0 in the high jump, second among individuals, and Ellie Jindra and Anna Mackey each cleared 4-10. In the long jump, meanwhile, Sami Rammelsberg had a leap of 16-03.5 to top all competitors.
Anna Vrancken smoothed out the Eagles’ list of winners, finishing with a mark of 104-06 in the discus.
