A host of volleyball aficionados participated in the 16th Annual Corey Lehman Memorial Volleyball Tournament, held on July 4 in memory of Corey Lehman and Steve Morgenstern and in honor of Erin Smith, 30 teams signed up for this year’s fundraising memorial event.
“We had a super day for our Corey Lehman Memorial Scholarship Fund Volleyball Tournament,” said tournament organizer Janet Lehman. “Three courts were set up for the Recreational Divisions, two courts for BB Division, and two for the Open Division. This has been the most teams ever.”
Lehman said Erin Smith served some volleyballs over the net to open the tournament; and the four Big Walnut Student Athletes that were Corey Lehman Memorial Scholarship recipients this year were present.
“The four recipients — Jennifer Wenger, Samantha Godby, Krista Schmidt and Christian Johnson — introduced themselves to everyone before the tournament,” Lehman said. “They each received $1,500 each from the Corey Lehman Memorial Scholarship Fund.”
Team B4B dominated the Rec Division. Team B4B members were Johnny Cannell, Tyler Piper, Tabatha Piper, Natalie Cannell, Jon Norman, Luke Worley and Buddy Carrel.
Team Brian’s Gimpy Knee took top honors is the BB Division. Team Brian’s Gimpy Knee members were Andy Sanders, Summer Hale, Matt Schoonover, Scott Thomas, Gabby Thomas and Shawn Parsell.
Team David Lost His Phone placed first in the Open Division. Team David Lost His Phone members were David Riggsby, Molly Van Oss, Camilo Guerci, Kevin Van Oss, Samantha Marunam and Matt Albert.
Anyone interested in becoming an individual or corporate sponsor of the Corey Lehman Memorial Volleyball Tournament may contact Janet Lehman. All tournament proceeds go to the Corey Lehman Memorial Scholarship Fund, a tax-exempt organization.
